Up

The latest movie from Pixar, Up.

Can Pixar do it again? Probably.

Their films are generally overrated, but I don't think I have ever seen a bad one.

Is this going to be the cartoon version of Gran Torino

Observe and Report

This is the trailer for the latest Seth Rogen movie, Observe and Report.

Wow this movie looks lame. Seth Rogen is seriously suffering from overexposure kind of like Ben Stiller circa 2004.

Do we really need two movies about mall cops in the same year? Funny thing is, Paul Blart actually looked better.

State of Play

This is the trailer for the upcoming political/newspaper/mystery/thriller called State of Play. It stars Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams & Helen Mirren.

This movie seems really intriguing, but I don't know how good the movie is going to be. My guess is the quality of the actors will make the movie atleast half-way decent. Still, if it was actually good, the studio would be releasing it in later in the year. Oh, yea. As usual the trailer gave way too much away.

Russell Crowe brought back his long hair for this one. Hopefully it works out better than Mystery, Alaska.

When was the last time Ben Affleck was in a movie?

Adventureland

This is the trailer from the upcoming comedy, Adventureland.

Wow, we've finally reached the stage where people are writing movies that try to look like a Judd Appatow film. They even hired some of the same actors.

Ryan Reynolds' career has definitely stalled; he seems so out of the place in this film. First the Proposal, now this. Hopefull he knocks the Wolverine role out of the park.

Public Enemies

This is the trailer for the new Michael Mann movie, Public Enemies. The film stars Christian Bale and Johnny Depp.

Period pieces are so tricky and this trailer reveals the risks. The accents sound really goofy on Depp Bale in the trailer. Also, Depp's character's plot sounds a lot like his character's plot in Blow. And that movie was completely average. Also, I think the trailer gave too much away.

12 Rounds

Another WWE movie!! Their movies have all been crap, and the trailer for this film, 12 rounds does not make me feel this movie will be any different.

Wasn't that the same plot of the last John Cena movie? Who cares. It will suck.

I Love You, Man

This is the trailer for the film, I Love You, Man. It stars Paul Rudd and Jason Segal.

I love Paul Rudd and Jason Segal, but this looks like complete garbage. Why wouldn't Paul Rudd just pick his brother as his best man. This movie reminds me of the crappy "chick flick wedding" movies that come out in January. Only it stars dudes. (two funny dudes at that)

Final Trailer Rating: 3/10

Fast and Furious

Yep. That's the very creative name for the FOURTH movie in the fast and the furious franchise. This is the trailer.

Well, I guess as a teaser this trailer functions very well. That is it functions very well if you can't wait to see the FOURTH fast and the furious movie. I wish I could could assume that no one is excited for this movie, but I'm sure this movie will make oodles of cash. sigh.

Race to Witch Mountain

This is the trailer for the upcoming Dwayne Johnson film, Race to Witch Mountain.

Oh Rocky. Apparently the Rock has found a niche in the kids oriented/family fun films. This trailer is actually pretty good and makes the film look better than it probably is.

BTW: ONE MORE MATCH, ONE MORE MATCH, ONE MORE MATCH

Knowing

This is the trailer for the latest Nicholas Cage vehicle, Knowing.

Doesn;t Nicholas Cage have enough money. He is a talented actor and it is just so frustrating that he has been wastings his talents for years on this garbage.

Funny People

Judd Appatow has directed two of the better comedies in the last 25 years. This is the trailer for his 3rd film, Funny People.

Adam Sandler has not been in a good comedy since Happy Gilmore, so I was pretty skeptical when I heard Appatow cast him in the lead for his latest film. This trailer went a long way to quell my concerns.

However, my big concern with this trailer is how much of the plot they revealed. Do you really need a trailer to be 3 and a half minutes.

BTW: This film could be a breakout role for Eric Bana.

Sunshine Cleaning

This is the trailer for the upcoming indie film, Sunshine Cleaning.

The first minute of the trailer makes the movie seem really charming but then the last minute of the trailer makes the movie seem boring, lame and contrived. Which was one is it? My guess is the latter.

Amy Adams and Emily Blunt are both charming, beautiful and talented actresses though, so I guess the movie still has a shot at being entertaining.

Terminator: Salvation

Last week, I looked at the teaser trailer for the new Terminator movie. This is the full length version.

Really nothing new to add here, which is probably a good thing. Not much of the plot is revealed so this is basically just a full length teaser. (Hopefully this doesn't mean the movie has no plot). The only difference with this new trailer is that we got to get a look at some new characters and new robots. As with the teaser, I'm sure fans of the franchise will be excited, but the trailer once again failed to get a non-fan excited. Can this film be more than just a bunch of explosions (ie: can this movie be more than a Michael Bay Movie?)

I am still intrigued though.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Michael Bay is back and this is the teaser trailer for the film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the sequel to 2007's smash hit (from a money perspecive).

Your opinion on this teaser trailer is probably your opinion on the first film. Hence my lukewarm reaction to this trailer. I thought the first film was merely okay. I doubt this film is going to be much different from the first one, for better or for worse.

Expect more movies in this franchise.

The Proposal

In honor of the Oscars last night, I'm going to look at a trailer that has absolutely no chance of being nominated next year. This is the trailer for the romantic comedy, The Proposal.

Oh Ryan Reynolds. What are you doing to yourself. Seriously this movie looks like it sucks so much.

This trailer is the very definition of NO BUYS, because this trailer makes people not want to see it.

Complete Failure of a trailer.

LIVE OSCAR COVERAGE (RED CARPET TOO)

11:54 Spielberg is handing out best picture...I wonder who is going to win...Slumdog Millionaire. A very deserving choice. Solid Show.

11:46 Penn gave a great speech, specifically putting over Rourke, but he forgot to thank his wife.

11:40 Best Actor And winner is....Sean Penn. This was such a great year for leading men

11:37 More Youtube Goodness

11:30 Best Actress And the winner is.......still waiting....what happen to sophia loren....Kate Winslet for The Reader

11:21 Sank You Youtube!

11:20 Boyle won for Best Director

11:11 Spoke too soon.

11:08 Do the japanese have a natural talent for giving hilarious acceptance speeches? First the domo arigoto goy and the best foreign film guy. Are they doing an In Memorium montage? Is Paul Newman going to be mentioned once tonight?

11:01 At least they picked the right Slumdog song

11:00 How DID THE BOSS NOT GET NOMINATED?

10:55 Best Score and the winner is....Alicia Keys still looks plastic...surprise, surprise Slumdog Millionaire wins. How The Dark Knight and Revolutionary Road were not nominated for this is beyond me. Oh well.

10:45 Eddie Murphy prsented Jerry Lewis with some lifetime achievement award. He gave a very, conside and sincere speech. They got 45 minutes to do 6 awards plus the In Memorium montage.

10:36 The Slumdog train keeps mowing'em down. It is a mortal lock for Best Picture.

10:13 How do they not go to commercial after ledger family makes everybody watching cry.

10:10 Heath Ledger won...and it got a little misty at the Hawke's Nest

10:03That musical number was an EPIC FAILURE~!

9:53 Beyonce does a run-in in the main event and the crowd goes absolutely MILD. This mid-show musical has no place on the show.

9:45 That short was funnier than Pineapple Express

9:39 Jessica Biel is pretty...moving on

9:35 Slumdog won for Cinematography...Stiller's beard thing was weak

9:16 Most disproportionate atractiveness between two presenters ever just happened when James Bond and Sarah Jessica Parker walked on stage...Ben Button won for Art direction...Button will be this years Aviator

9:10 Strangely while Jennifer Aniston was presenting, they kept panning to Brangelina.

9:07 WALL*E won. Shocking. The production team is really trying to make evrything seem different this year.

9:01 Best Adapted Screenplay Steve Martin and Tina fey were ten times funnier here than on their 30 Rock Episode... and the winner is...Slumdog Millionaire. Once again, no surprises.

8:58 Best Acceptance speech ever. Not up for debate.

8:57 Best Original Screenplay That writing thing was funny...awesome shots at scientology...and the winner is....crowd actually favors In Bruges...but the winner is...Milk. No surprises so far.

8:49 Best Supporting Actress And the winner is....Penelope Cruz for Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Well thats one for the Weinstein Bros.

8:45 OK this "secret" is much cooler than E! made it sound. This makes so much sense, USING OLDER STARS TO PUT OVER YOUNGER STARS. Vinnie Mac take a lesson.

8:40 Jackman Verdict: It is hard to believe this guy is Wolverine...well that Hathaway part was strange(good)...best part was Jackman almost pulling a Jimmy Fallon during the Reader part...That was actually pretty impressive and better than awkward comedic act that no one laughs at...

8:30 Here are the questions again from the beginning of the blog. (My guesses will be in Bold. I'll review these questions at the end)

Kate or Meryl?
Who accepts for Heath? Christopher Nolan
How many awards does Slumdog win besides screenplay, directing and best picture? 9
Does Frost/Nixon get shut out? Yes
Does Ben Button get anything other than the techies? no
Who wins best supporting actress? (reportedly this will the first award announced)Davis
Hugh Jackman as host: stroke of genius or EPIC FAILURE? Stroke of Genius
Mickey or Penn?
Does The Reader get shut out? No
Is Daniel Day Lewis showing up to present Best Actress? Yes
Who announces Best Picture? Martin Scorcese

8:24 Marisa Tomei's dress has more material than all of the material in her costumes from The Wrestler combined

8:15 Hannah Montana talks about her movie coming out in April. However, she failed to mention what the movie is called. I'm presuming it will suck a cock.

8:13 Robin Roberts tells the high school musical kids she hopes to see them back here one day as nominees. That would be worse than Titanic winning all those awards

8:11 Mickey Rourke is back with his PIMP-ASS WHITE SUIT~! He said his dog died in his arms

8:10 The Slumdog cast & crew is doing the whole 2001 New England Patriots thing where they come out of the proverbial tunnell together.

8:03 Quick Poll: Who is less attractive? Sarah Jessica Parker or Matthew Broderick?

8:01 Robin Roberts (ex-ESPN studio person) is hosting

8:00 SWITCH OVER TO ABC

7:59 Alicia Keys's makeup is making her look plastic

7:58 Pitt literally gave a 3 second interview. He said he was honored to be here regardless of being nominated.

7:55 E! closes the show the same way they started: with Ben Lyons being a COMPLETE TOOL~!

7:52 Kate Winslet admits that she is nervous. It should also be pointed out that she is looking curveliscious.

7:45 Alan Bacchus just mentioned on his blog Daily Film Dose, what I'm been saying for months. Mickey Rourke's comeback started 6 years ago. He was great Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Sin City. I also can't figure out why he hasn't thanked Robert Rodriguz yet

7:42 Phillip Seymour Hoffman is wearing a snow hat. That was so 8 years ago.

7:38 E! is freaking out that they have to go to commercial just as Brangelina are getting here. There is no god if Pitt beats any of the other four guys.

7:34 Ron Howard talks about how he likes to do take after take after take. From what I understand, Eastwood has the exact opposite style.

7:29 Mickey Rourke spoke about his dog. He said he would trade any potential oscar for two more years with his dog who just died.

7:20 Damn, I was hoping Bob Downey Jr. would show up in character

7:19 WHAT HAPPEND TO FERRIS BEUHLER?!?!?!?

7:18 Sean Penn made it. He couldn't make the spirit awards last night

7:11 Mickey Rourke is wearing a pimp-ass white suit.

7:05 I guess Heidi Klum actually loves Mark Hamill...ur...I mean Seal.

7:03 Seacrest is a tool as well. Michael Shannon probably looks the most out of place of anybody here.

6:48 The Indian Michael Jackson from Slumdog is here!!!! (he's the older version of the older brother)

6:46 Yep, Ben Lyons is still a tool.

6:43 I can't really think of precident (sp) for this Hugh Jackman thing. From what I understand, he knocked the Tony's gig out of the park, but this is a very different audience.

6:39 E!'s Oscar Secret: UNANNOUNCED STARS WILL BE HERE. Once again the crowd goes mild. Basically Past winners (unannounced) will read each nominee. Train Wreck Potential (making a simple process a hundred times more complicated) 7/10. Trainwreck potential of Mickey Rourke's acceptance speech 11/10.

6:35 WOW. When did Kevin Kline get old? Kevin Kline and Ryan Seacrest are discussing American Idol. SYNERGY~! To quote Bill Simmons, I'm officially going to light myself on fire.

6:31 Vanessa Hudgens is cute; her boyfriend is a tool. such is life

6:27 Ben Lyons is still a tool

6:22 Hugh Jackman gave an interview...nothing of note...I have no idea how he is going to turn out tonight

6:09 Interview with Seacrest and Hannah Montana: her mom sure is hot...i think she is wearing a diamond dress...this girl actually seams like a teenager, which is refreshing...over/under for the years it takes for her to get completely screwed up: 3 years. I'll take the under

6:03 E! is reporting Nicole Ritchie is preggers. And the crowd goes mild.

6:01 Ben Lyons is a tool

5:50 Questions that will finally be answered soon.

Kate or Meryl?
Who accepts for Heath?
How many awards does Slumdog win besides screenplay, directing and best picture?
Does Frost/Nixon get shut out?
Does Ben Button get anything other than the techies?
Who wins best supporting actress? (reportedly this will the first award announced)
Hugh Jackman as host: stroke of genius or EPIC FAILURE?
Mickey or Penn?
Does The Reader get shut out?
Is Daniel Day Lewis showing up to present Best Actress?
Who announces Best Picture?

5:15 I hope ABC has a censor button

Frost/Nixon

Remember, I'm doing live blogging of the Oscars tonight at 8!

In honor of the Academy Awards, I'm going to look at the trailer of a Best Picture nominee: Frost/Nixon

This trailer does a very good job of making a movie about an interview seem exciting. I was fustrated that they revealed so much of the comic relief in the trailer. However, the movie contains enough comic relief that it is not really a big deal.

Watchmen Trailer: Motion Comic Version

Special 3rd posting today. Someone made a motion comic version of Watchmen. I think a motion comic version of the movie is being released on DVD around the same time as the release of the feature film.

Oscar Predictions

I'll also will be doing live blogging of the Oscars on Sunday Night.

Best Picture
Will:
Slumdog Millionaire
Should: Slumdog Millionaire
Should've Been Nominated: The Dark Knight

It is destiny at this point. No one else stands a chance.

Actor
Will:
Sean Penn, Milk
Should: Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Should've Been Nominated: Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino

What a year for this category. Pitt should not have been nominated though. I won't complain if Penn, Langella or Jenkins win.

Actress
Will:
Kate Winslet, The Reader
Should: Meryl Streep, Doubt
Should've Been Nominated: Cate Blanchett, Ben Button

Weak year for this category. After failing 5 times, its unlikey that Winslet does not get it this year.

Supporting Actor
Will:
Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Should: Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Should've Been Nominated: Emile Hirsch, Milk/Aaron Eckhart, The Dark Knight

It is a lock. I love Brolin, but he shouldn't been nominated.

Supporting Actress
Will:
Viola Davis, Doubt
Should: Maria Tomei, The Wrestler
Should've Been Nominated: Hiam Abbass, The Visitor

Any of these five can win. Nate Silver says Henson will win. Cruz is the favorite. Tomei was the best. The "leaked" list says Adams wins. Davis is just a hunch though.

Director
Will:
Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Should: Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
Should've Been Nominated: Christopher Nolan, The Dark Knight

Destiny.

Original Screenplay
Will:
Milk
Should: Milk
Should've Been Nominated: Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Milk needs to get something.

Adapted Screenplay
Will:
Slumdog Millionaire
Should: Frost/Nixon
Should've Been Nominated: The Dark Knight

Destiny

Inglorious Bastards

This is the first trailer of Tarantino's new film, Inglorious Bastards.

I know this movie is coming out in the summer, but Harvey Weinstein seems to think that this film is Oscar-bait. This trailer does not imply this in any way.

I'm not saying this film can't be fun and enjoyable (after all, Tarantino did write it) but I don't see the oscar potential that Harvey apparently sees.

I'm going to reserve my opinion on the casting of Brad Pitt until after I see the movie, but this trailer indicates that he was not the best choice.

Hopefully QT rebounds after the very disappointing Death Proof

Watchmen

Geeks rejoice! This is the trailer for the film, Watchmen.

This is a very strong trailer. However, my main concern is whther or not the trailer attracted people who did not read the "THE MOST CELEBRATED GRAPIC NOVEL OF ALL-TIME~!" People who I know saw the trailer seemed rather unimpressed.

Personally, after seeing this trailer, I went out and read the "THE MOST CELEBRATED GRAPIC NOVEL OF ALL-TIME~!," which in turn made me want to see the movie.

Also, Kelly Leak (Jackie Earle Haley) looks like he was perfectly cast.

Gran Torino

This is the trailer of Clint Eastwood's latest film (and potentiallly his last acting job).

I have mixed feelings about this trailer. On one hand, the trailer made me want to see the movie (and it was very good), but on the other hand I thought it revealed a little too much about the plot. Also, I think too much of the comedic relief was revealed in the trailer.

Terminator: Salvation

The Terminator Franchise is being rebooted (a popular idea lately), and this is the trailer of the first film of a supposed planned trilogy.

This is the first teaser trailer that I have analyzed. I find that teaser trailers are an extremely effective way of hyping up a movie. It works near perfectly here.

My main problem with this trailer is that I know the film is directed by frickkin' McG. He is most famous for directing the two Charlie's Angels films. Therefore, it is hard for me to get excited for this film even with Chistian Bale in the lead, no matter what the trailer shows. Also, the whole Terminator franchise is extremely overrated. Still, good effort with the trailer.

Final Trailer Rating: 7/10

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Marvel decided to create a series of spinoffs from the very succesful X-Men series. This is the trailer for the first spinoff, Wolverine.

Now, this is how you build interest in a summer blockbuster. I was initially very skeptical about this film. It has an intriguing cast but the last film was such a disappointment that I had lost faith in the series.

However, this trailer got me excited. At the very least, this trailer made me feel that this film will be entertaining. Not only that, but the trailer barely revealed anything about the plot.

Spider-Man 2

The Spider-Man franchise was (and is) one of Hollywood hottest products. Below is the trailer for the second film.

This trailer reveals so much about the details of the film. My Dad and I were actually angry when we saw this preview.

The real frustrating part is that it was so unnecessary. I contend that if this trailer just rvealed the title and opening date that the film would have made the same amount of money. So why ruin it important plot twists for the audience.

They actually show Peter Parker's major arc throughout the film. In the trailer, we see that he decides to stop being Spider-Man and then later decides to be Spider-Man again. Ridiculous.
